Performance Days Showcases Virtual Design

Virtual design is revolutionising fashion by allowing designers to create digital collections, simulate materials with realism, and optimise production for sustainability. Programs like CLO3D enable real-time visualisation and adjustments, reducing the need for physical prototypes and saving resources, time, and costs. These technologies are reshaping the industry, from digital fittings and AI-driven material selection to virtual and augmented reality integration for interactive shopping experiences.

The new Virtual Zone in the Tech Hub special area showcased these innovations, reinforcing Performance Days' commitment to the future of design. Nina Doll, an expert in virtual fashion and sustainable design, created two futuristic outfits during the event. Her first look, inspired by sportswear, combined functionality with modern aesthetics using sustainable materials from The Loop. AI technology generated a print that seamlessly integrated with the design. The second look embraced fashion-forward influences with two pant variations - one sporty and one flowing - alongside a draped skirt alternative. AI played a key role in shaping the design concept.

"Digital fabric libraries are invaluable for projects that lead to physical production. By using real fabric data, I ensure garments drape and behave as they would in real life," said Nina Doll. "This simplifies material selection and minimises the need for multiple test versions."

AI technology is also streamlining design processes by automating repetitive tasks, allowing designers to focus on creativity. "3D design has become central to my work," Doll added. "I originally trained in physical fashion design, but for the past five years, I have worked exclusively in digital fashion. Digitising production steps like collection development, design, and sampling saves resources and reduces waste."

The Loop, Performance Days' digital sourcing platform, simplifies fabric selection by providing a year-round resource for designers, brands, and buyers. Visitors to the event can scan QR codes at the Trend, Innovation, Footwear, Bodywear, and Wool Forums to instantly access and order materials, streamlining the sourcing process.

The next edition of Performance Days will take place on October 29-30, 2025, at Messe München, with a pre-show event on October 28.
