Coachella: When Superstars’ Outfits Turn into a Visual Feast

Coachella, once a simple music carnival, has now evolved into a “fashion art show” that integrates diverse cultures. Here, music and fashion intertwine, and superstars are no longer satisfied with basic stage costumes. Instead, they use a narrative approach to their outfits, pushing self-expression to the extreme. They tell stories through their clothing, making each costume change a new emotional outburst. While the audience enjoys the music, it feels like they are reading the superstars’ inner scripts.

Lady Gaga: The Red Prison in Dark Opera

Lady Gaga’s opening performance is undoubtedly a highlight of the Coachella. Set against the backdrop of a dark opera house, she kicked off a nearly two-hour audio-visual feast with her 2011 classic “Bloody Mary.” Her costume was truly breathtaking—a giant red gown that seemed like a red prison, tightly enveloping her.

The creation of this gown was nothing short of an engineering marvel, taking over 1,000 hours to complete. It featured a wooden frame, a steel dragon bone structure, and more than 300 yards of fire-resistant stage fabric. What’s more, the interior of the prison-like gown was equipped with a sophisticated lifting mechanism, showcasing a high level of industrial complexity.

When she sang “Abracadabra” and “Judas,” the red gown, illuminated by the stage lights, made her appear like a soul trapped in a prison. She used her singing and costume to express her inner struggles and liberation. This was not just a performance but a dual impact of emotion and vision, immersing the audience and leaving a lasting impression.

Lisa: From Tough and Cold to Dreamy and Soft

If Lady Gaga’s costume was extremely shocking, then Lisa’s stage outfits were the epitome of style switching. She teamed up with designer Asher Levine to create two completely different stage costumes, perfectly interpreting her multifaceted nature from toughness to dreaminess.

The first “scale armor” bodysuit, made of 3D black scales and shiny spikes, along with claw-like designs, instantly exuded a powerful aura. This outfit was like her armor, making her seem like a fearless warrior on stage, showing resilience and strength. Every move and glance conveyed her confidence and dominance.

The other “bioluminescent” device, however, showed a completely different style. It used UV-responsive materials and luminous fibers, glowing faintly in the dark like a strange plant sleeping in the desert. This outfit seemed to wrap her in a dreamy layer, making her appear as ethereal and mysterious as an elf on stage.

Jennie: Style Switching under the Dominant Red

Jennie’s performance at the Coachella featured a custom red leather vest and matching shorts as the base of her outfit. The leather embossing on the vest, crafted by Lebanese designer Georges Hobeika, was almost identical to the 2025 Fall/Winter showpiece but more suited for the stage. The over-the-knee boots were from the Chinese brand Didu, whose relaxed yet well-proportioned design gave the overall look a sense of weight.

On top of this red-dominated base, Jennie switched styles with outerwear, sunglasses, cowboy hats, and other accessories. At the beginning, she wore a crocodile-textured red jacket, creating a Western cowboy vibe. In the middle, she changed into a lazy satin coat and a KIM SHUI patent leather trench coat designed for “Zen,” instantly transforming into a futuristic queen. She then layered a lace-printed skirt over the shorts, showing a style that combined softness and rebellion. Finally, she closed the show with a custom long dress printed with the “Ruby” pattern, completing a perfect transition from hot and spicy to dreamy and enchanting.

Coachella is no longer just a music event; it has become a “fashion art show” that integrates diverse cultures. Here, superstars use their outfits to tell stories and express emotions. Lady Gaga’s red prison, Lisa’s multifaceted costumes, and Jennie’s style switching have all become the most dazzling highlights of the festival.
